Here's how to get completely native-looking scrollbars on the left side of an element---not the right. It came up as a question on Stack Overflow, so, I decided to tackle it. After two hours of cursing IE's box model, the jQuery plugin got done. It provides completely native looking scrollbars on the left via a nifty, yet nasty, hack. Some people have reported setting the text-direction to RTL, and then flipping the text back works. But frankly, it doesn't work in many browsers (like Chrome and Firefox). That's why I've made this plugin.
direction:rtl; /* Right To left */
text-align:left; /* Override direction */

Features:

  • Supports padding.
  • Degrades beautifully.
  • No extra HTML markup or CSS on your part.
  • Works in IE. That's worth mentioning, eh?
